RNP, Gasabo District boost youth

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Gasabo have pledged five motorcycles to an association of commercial cyclists operating in the district as a way of supporting the youth. The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, and Gasabo mayor Willy Ndizeye announced the pledge on Wednesday during a meeting with members of of Imbaraga z’igihugu kandi z’ubaka, in Kimironko Sector. The IGP also pledged another Rwf1 million to the association. The Police chief urged the youth to always “think big” adding that the donation is meant to support them to take another step in their personal development. He said security also includes one’s well-being adding that security is the foundation for development. “Development is based on security of persons and their property. There will be no sustainable security if people are still poor or if don’t move ahead in their development initiatives,” Gasana said. He invited the youth to work with Police and other security organs to prevent crime such as trade and consumption of illicit drugs. RNP believes poverty is also a security threat and has decided to support development initiatives to ensure human security. Early this year, RNP donated Rwf1 million to cyclists in Musanze District. Last year, the Force gave out five cows to poor families, paid medical insurance for 500 families and distributed about 500 free mosquito nets. Mayor Ndizeye also urged the cyclists to work hard to improve their well-being. “Actually we never expected this and we are so happy for this donation. It’s good to see that in whatever you are doing, people appreciate and support you to take another step,” Thacien Rwakibibi, one of the beneficiaries, said. “This is a big boost to the association, but also to an individual to fight poverty and also play a great role towards sustainable security,” Rwakibibi added.
