Rwanda midfielder Alfred Martin Mugabo has been released by English Premier League giants Arsenal where he has been playing for the reserve team. Following his release by the north London side, the 18-year- old Rwandan international was immediately snapped up by Championship (England second division) side Sheffield Wednesday with whom he has been undergoing trials. According to arsenalyouth.wordpress.com, Mugabo’s departure has been likely for some time. A versatile youngster capable of playing in most defensive and midfield positions, Mugabo struggled to break into the Arsenal U21 team on a regular basis and subsequently wasn’t offered a professional contract for next season. Mugabo joined the Gunners at Under 13s having first become aware of his own ability when he was selected for his school’s Year Six team while he was still in Year Three. Mugabo first joined the Rwandan football set-up at the U17 level when he played for the team at the 2011 Fifa U-17 World Cup. He made his debut at the U17 World Cup on 22 June 2011 against the Uruguay U17s in which he came on in the 74th minute as Rwanda lost 1–0. Mugabo then made his debut for the senior side on June 16 2013 during the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Algeria in which he came on as substitute in the 54th minute for Tumaine Ntamuhanga as Rwanda went on to lose the match 1-0.
