EASTERN PROVINCE NGOMA—An official with Intra-health-Twubakane has urged leaders to involve local residents in health care programmes in order to ensure quality health services. Emile Sempabwa, the Intra-health-Twubakane head of Community participation and Communication told Sector leaders that decentralising health services also requires involving residents in health issues affecting them. He was closing a three-day meeting of Sector leaders, and heads of health centres aimed at assessing the problems hindering delivery of quality health services at health centres in the district. Sempabwa observed that many health centres don’t involve residents, in health issues affecting them. This, he said, is the reason why the quality of services is still poor. Contributing resources like money, materials and manpower by residents are some of the things Sempabwa said would improve the quality of health services. Calling for massive mobilisation of communities, Sempabwa asked leaders to also engage Community Health Workers (CHW). Similar training took place in Kirehe, Kayonza and Rwamagana districts. Ends
