What is mine is yours

The best dressed people at university are the girls. I used to wonder why. I thought maybe they were looking for partners so they had to invest in fancy clothing but I was wrong. I hadn’t been introduced to the formula of having a bigger and better wardrobe. At the beginning of the semester, girls are seriously hunting for forth year students – preferably in another faculty. You’ll find out why. A friend of mine was looking for a roommate. Some forth year chick in a different faculty came around and I was surprised when she dismissed her. When I asked her why, she said, “No, she is too fat.” I have since been trying to connect the relation between being fat and being a suitable roommate and it is as hard as a chemistry paper. But she finally got one. So, last week, I was getting out of my friend’s room when her roommate walked in, dressed in the clothes my friend was putting on two days before. You might think I’m exaggerating but even the shoes were borrowed. I will tell you now that I noticed all this because I have a crush on my friend. I soon found out that it has become a business to share clothes. When they are in the market buying clothes, they think to themselves, “Oh, this fits me very well; now will it also fit my roommate?” But there is trouble when one of them realises the other is gaining weight. “Please don’t take this personally but I think we can’t be roommates anymore, you are gaining too much weight,” - and the fat one has to go find someone of her size to share a room with. In case you are wondering why they need roommates years apart and from another faculty, it’s easy. They can’t risk being noticed wearing someone else’s clothes but with someone from another faculty and year; the chances of figuring out the ‘clothing switch’ are quite low. Those are campus girls for you!
