Coach Abdu Bizimana’s side lost the opening game to Kenya’s AFC Leopards 2-0 on Saturday. The Leopards’ game may not have been a smooth flowing thriller but they were confident and more powerful than the Rwandans. Noah Wafula pounced in the 20th minute for Leopards, then Jackson Saleh struck in the 81st minute after Etincelles goalie Djuma Nsanganira dropped the ball after initially looking like he had secured it. A win for Etincelles today and a draw against Tanzania’s Mbeya City would grant passage to the quarter final round. Meanwhile, Mbeya City were the winners in contrasting atmosphere during the second day snatching 3-2 against Academie Tchite. Patient Rachid scored off a header in the 10th minute. However, Mbeya City showed remarkable recovery leveling six minutes later through skipper Paul Nonga. They were to go 3-1 up by half time after goals from Yeya Mwagane (27th) and Felix Themy in the 38th minute. Mbeya had completely turned the tables but a great goal by Cedric Manirakiza in the 69th minute kept the Burundians in the hunt for a possible point till the end. The quarter finals will be staged on May 30 and May 31 May, the semifinals June 2 before the finals on June 4.
