President Macky Sall of Senegal was among the officials who arrived in the country yesterday for the ongoing African Development Bank (AfDB) Annual Meetings that kicked off on Monday. Other officials who arrived yesterday include Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto and African Union Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Upon his arrival, President Sall participated in a session dubbed, ‘Where are the Jobs?” that sought to explore ways of tackling unemployment on the continent, especially among the youth. “Finding employment for our people should no longer be looked at as a national issue, but a continental issue. We need to build more industries and create trade linkages between African countries–and through this, many jobs will be created,” President Sall said. He added: “This calls for drastic measures to scale up our industrial growth by providing necessities like electricity, water, transport and communication modes that are always functional. We in government must also ensure that the environment is conducive for investors through political stability and security provision.” The meetings that run until Friday have attracted top officials from African governments, international organisations, business leaders and members of the academia among others.
