FIBA U18 Zone V Championship Girls: Rwanda 55-73 Uganda Boys: Rwanda 61-63 THE national junior teams failed to book places to the continental championships after losing their final matches in the Fiba Zone Five Championship which climaxed on Thursday in Kampala, Uganda. The boys’ team which went into the championship as defending champions lost the title to hosts Uganda after losing their final game. Uganda beat Rwanda with a narrow score 63-61 to lift the regional title and book a ticket to the African tournament which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire. In the women’s category, Rwanda lost to winners Uganda by a 20-point gap, with the hosts registering a 73-53 win to qualify for the Africa U18 championships scheduled to be held in Madagascar later this year. Rwanda’s women team finished bottom while Kenya was last in the boy’s category. This was Uganda’s third title. The country’s two titles were won in the 2005 Fiba Men’s Zone V championship and the 2009 U-18 girls Zone V crown.
