Three people died on the spot on Tuesday afternoon when a cargo truck collided head-on with a towing truck along Rwamagana-Kigali highway and a motorcycle. The bodies of the deceased persons were taken to Rwamagana Hospital mortuary. Among the dead were the driver and his assistant onboard a Fuso truck and the motorcyclist. The brakes of the trailer are believed to have failed, while descending a hill at Musha, causing it to ram into the oncoming lorry and motorcycle. Eyewitnesses said it took the intervention of the police and residents for the bodies of the victims to be retrieved. “My condolences to the bereaved families in today’s accident in Rwamagana. May their soul RIP.” Tweeted Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi immediately after the accident. Senior Superintendant of Police Benoit Nsengiyumva, Eastern region Police Spokesperson, said police were investigating the cause of the accident.
