POLICE HANDBALL CLUB edged out Gicumbi to lift the 2014 Labour Day Cup played on Sunday at Kimisagara Youth Sports Centre. The reigning national handball champions and last year’s Labour Day Cup holders suffered a 26-35 loss to rivals Police in the finals. Gilbert Mutuyimana, Police’s leading scorer attributed the victory to determination from his teammates. ‘‘We have been coordinating very well and I think it’s the reason we are the champions now,” ‘‘Our major focus was to become champions and we have become the champions thanks to my fellow players and the entire handball fraternity,” he said. In the women category, ES Mukingi snatched a 20-18 win over Gorilla to win the trophy.
