RWANDA FOOTBALL Federation’s Secretary General Olivier Mulindahabi has said the country is ready to host this year’s Cecafa/Kagame Club Cup. The East and Central Africa annual tournament is scheduled to take place in August. Speaking to local media this week, Mulindahabi said, “Ferwafa in partnership with the ministry of sports has accepted to host the event in response to a request from Cecafa executive committee. Rwanda opted to host this year’s event as a rehearsal dress for the 2016 Chan competition.” “We have a budget of $100,000 (Rwf. 67.8m) that is available to finance the tournament; we are still waiting for Cecafa to inform us about their contribution,” Mulindahabi was quoted saying. Last week, the Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye confirmed that Kigali had agreed to host the event scheduled after the Fifa World Cup. Cecafa is expected to meet the Rwanda FA in Tanzania this weekend to finalise the sponsorship package. This year’s competition which brings together league champions from all member countries will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Burundi’s Vital ‘O are the Cecafa Club Championship defending champions after they defeated APR 2-0 in the final last year in Darfur, Sudan. Defending league champions Rayon Sports, who won their only title to date in 1998, will represent Rwanda.
