Kigazu the cow (Part 1)

Long time ago, far away hidden in the beautifully woven hills of Kibungo district, in Rusumo village in eastern Rwanda, was a big fat cow called Kigazu. The cow was very beautiful among all the cows in Rwanda and neighboring Tanzania. Kigazu’s owner was a nice strong man called Mzee Fidel. He would not go anywhere without his cow. He was famous because he was the only man who owned a cow in that village. The milk from Kigazu was very sweet and tasty. Every one made sure they drank it every day. The people of Rusumo village were now fat because of Kigazu’s milk. Days went by and weeks went by and Rusumo village was lively. One day, the kraal where Kigazu stayed was open. Kigazu decided to take a walk. She wandered around and got lost in the hills. Now Kigazu could not find her way back to the village because she used to graze with Mzee Fidel all the time. Kigazu had never been alone in her life. She was very scared and decided to keep on looking for her owner. The more she walked the further she got lost. Kigazu walked until she saw a man in the fields. She ran to him thinking it was Mzee Fidel, but lo! It was not him. The man was very kind to Kigazu and he took her to his village in neighboring Tanzania. No one had seen such a beautiful cow in their lives. The cows they had were thin and did not have a lot of milk to give the people in that village. They admired and stared at Kigazu so much. Because they treated her so nicely, Kigazu decided to stay in this village until Mzee Fidel came to find her. To be continued…..
