Armenian gynecologist, Minas Ashley, is setting up a $2 million hospital in Rubirizi cell, Kanombe sector in Kicukiro District. The 150-bed health facility will be operational in the coming three years, Ashley said. He revealed this on Friday during the launch of the first phase of the facility, Minas Medical Centre, with a capacity to serve about 80 out patients per day. “I want to contribute to the development of the health sector through investment and providing my professional skills acquired during 30 years experience in the health profession,” Ashley said. “This is the first step towards the implementation of a bigger project that I believe will not only be useful as a health facility but will also provide employment to many health workers.” Residents said Minas Medical Centre will ease access to health services in the area. “This hospital will relieve us the burden of moving long distances seeking medical services,” said Alice Uwimana, a resident of Rubirizi, who attended the launch. The Executive Secretary Kanombe Sector, Donatien Murenzi launched the medical centre and commended Ashley for his decision to invest in the country’s health sector. “In any community, the more health centres ope,n the easier it becomes to access high quality health services,” he said.
