Dear editor,South Africa’s President Thabo Mbeki who is the central mediator in Zimbabwe, should be impartial, if he is to bring Robert Mugabe and the opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai to terms. Mr. Mbeki has been mediating between the two sides, which have been holding talks in South Africa for more than a week. He is however, blamed by the opposition for being impartial and actually siding with Mugabe. If the accusation is true, then the whole process is a waste of time. The people of Zimbabwe need peace and this can only be achieved if some reasonable arrangements to manage the country are put in place. The two sides should also ask the people they lead what to agree on, because the issue is not just power sharing. MDC as a party is not just interested in putting Tsvangirai in power, but wants fundamental changes that will help the country to revive. Therefore, Mr. Mbeki should put in mind all these factors as he mediates between the protagonists in Zimbabwean politics. KACYIRU
