Airtel Rwanda and King Faisal Hospital have launched a fundraising drive to raise money to help Genocide survivors in Huye District. Donors are advised to drop their donations in boxes placed at Airtel outlets around Kigali and at King Faisal Hospital over the next three weeks. Over 100 genocide widows and orphans in Huye District are expected to benefit from the donations in Nyabusunzu cell of Rusatira Sector. Speaking at the launch, it was announced that Airtel will double the total funds that will be raised from donors. The money will be used to provide basic necessities, including food, one of the main challenges faced by the beneficiaries. At the launch in Kigali on Thursday afternoon, King Faisal Hospital CEO, Prof. Emile Rwamasirabo, said the hospital was a centre of empathy and compassion, and one of the ways of showing this was through reaching out to the less fortunate. “This year with our partner Airtel, we join all the Rwandans both at home and the Diaspora to commemorate 20 years after the Genocide against the Tutsi by reaching out to over 100 widows and orphans in Huye,” he said. Teddy Bhullar, the Managing Director of Airtel Rwanda also said this was part of their social corporate responsibility. “We hope that our contribution to this noble cause will go a long way in transforming the lives of this group,” he said, calling upon the public to donate generously towards the drive.
