The coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Rwanda, Auke Lootsma, has hailed Community Policing Committees (CPCs) for helping prevent crime in the country. Lootsma was speaking during a visit to Musanze Police Unit on March 31, where he also met members of CPCS in the district. He lauded the Rwanda National Police for engaging the public in ensuring sustainable security. The district mayor, Winifride Mpembyemungu, also commended CPCs for maintaining security. The District Police Commander, Supt. Silas Karekezi, briefed Lootsma on various anti-crime strategies in the country. He thanked UNDP for supporting the Force’s crime prevention efforts. UNDP helps in building the capacity of CPCS through training.
