Rwandans to benefit from India varsity programme

Rwandan managers are set to increase in number as a new programme between Rwandan universities and R.S College-Group of Institutions, an Indian university brand, will see Rwandan youth acquire managerial qualifications with enrollment starting this year. Speaking after touring a number of universities in the country last week, Sarit Kumar, the director of the college-group of institutions, said they were looking at having the students trained in India and coming back to impart the same skills to other university students in Rwanda. “We hope to start by taking about 200 students this year for training in courses like hospitality and financial management and change their perception of doing business and how they can be resourceful to their economy,” he explained. He added that the student numbers will increase annually and that a number of lecturers will also be coming from the college to Rwandan tertiary institutions. “Such a model is rather geared at having a self-sustaining economy as those who graduate are able to come back and offer the same skills to others in a cost-effective way,” he said. Kumar said developing capacities was also key in attracting investors in the country as many preferred using local skilled personnel.
