Junior Wasps face Burundi in friendly

TodayRwanda U20 vs Burundi U20 RWANDA UNDER-20 national team take on their Burundian counterparts in a friendly match this afternoon at Stade de Kigali starting at 3:30pm. Both teams are using the game as part of preparations for the Senegal 2015 Africa Youth Championships qualifiers. Rwanda will face Gabon in the second round after getting a first round bye following South Sudan’s withdrawal from the competition, while Burundi will host Djibouti in the first leg of the first round due on April 5. “This match is of great importance in helping our boys get the exposure needed at this level as we continue to prepare them for the next round of the qualifiers,” Junior wasps’ head coach Richard Tardy said yesterday. The Frenchman is planning to secure more friendly matches for his team as he tries to ensure the players are in their best form ahead of the second round set for May. Spain-based Valencia academy trio of midfielder Anderson Neza, right back Yves Rwigema and striker Fiston Nkizingabo will feature in today’s match. However, defender Pacifique Shema, who features for French third division side Orleans and Arsenal academy midfielder Martin Alfred Mugabo failed to arrive in time for today’s match. If Rwanda beat Gabon in the second round, they will take on the winner between Sierra Leone/Guinea and Ghana in the final qualifying round. Only seven places are up for grabs to join the hosts, Senegal for the finals tournament. Other countries that got byes to the second round include; Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, DR Congo, South Africa and Zambia. The semi-finalists in Senegal will represent Africa at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
