FOUR people suspected to be behind insecurity incidents in Musanze District were paraded before officials on Wednesday. The suspects (names withheld) are said to have been involved in two separate attacks, one at the home of Musanze District mayor Winfirde Mpembyemungu which killed a one-and-a-half-year old girl and injured two others and another grenade attack in Musanze town that injured six, according to the officials. Both incidents took place in early January. The Northern Province governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, hailed security organs that were involved in the investigations that led to the arrest of the suspected criminals. Among the suspects is the executive secretary of one of the sectors in Musanze District. A source who preferred anonymity said the local leader allegedly helped treat a suspect who was injured in the granade attack. The source claims the leader assisted the suspects without caring about the cause of the injuries, something that might have been the cause of his arrest. Bosenibamwe, however, declined to divulge any information on the suspects, adding that investigations are ongoing. “We are waiting for the final report from investigations,” he added Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Hitayezu had earlier on told The New Times that investigations were on to find out those behind the attacks. He said some people had been arrested and were yet to be handed to police. Officials, however, said there are no security threats in the province and urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of insecurity.
