App: WeChat Review: Patrick Buchana After the encounter we had with Whatsapp when it went off for about three hours last Saturday, it’s best to seek other options – like WeChat, an app that has mesmerized Chinese chatters. Next time things go south with Whatsapp, don’t hesitate to join WeChat. Pros: It gathers all of your sharing and communication tools in one place, including video calls, text messages, and images. Cons: It isn’t as cheap as Whatsapp and for now, it doesn’t have as many people as other apps do hence difficult to get noticed. To fully experience the app, you’ll need to get your friends to use it too, but it’s a great way to connect with your friends. To get started with WeChat, you’ll need to create a user ID and password, which requires you to enter your phone number and a four-digit code that is sent to you via text message. The app will need access to your Address Book, which is par for the course with this type of chat/text app. The interface has a very simple design and no ads to accidentally tap, which we greatly appreciated.
