Police in Nyarugenge District have arrested one person in connection with last Friday’s burglary at Soras head office in Kigali where electronics worth millions of francs were stolen. Robbers broke into the facility’s department of health insurance at about 11:45pm and stole two scanners, a flat television set, an internet switch, a computer and about Rwf590, 000. Police also said the suspect (name withheld), aged 28, was arrested red-handed with the two scanners and the television set. “We have so far arrested one person, who was found with some of the stolen items, but investigations are still ongoing to recover the other items,” Senior Supt Urbain Mwiseneza, the Central Region Police spokesperson, said. The suspect and the recovered equipment were picked from a house in Nyamirambo, a Kigali suburb, last Saturday, SSP Mwiseneza added. By press time he was detained at Nyamirambo Police station. Mwiseneza disclosed that footage from the insurance company indicates that two people were involved in the robbery. He said they are yet to find any evidence linking any of the insurance company’s employees, to the theft. He advised the business community to install security gadgets in their facilities like CCTV cameras to help in identifying criminals.
