The Archbishop of Canterbury and head of the Anglican Church, Justin Welby, on Thursday began a five-day trip around the Great Lakes Region. The trip aims at “satisfying his desire to build personal and professional bonds,” a statement from his official residence said. Archbishop Welby is scheduled to arrive in Rwanda on Sunday, according to Archbishop Onesphore Rwaje, the head of the Anglican church in Rwanda. Rwaje revealed that Archbishop Welbys will meet Anglican leaders in the country. “It is a private and personal visit. I will be in position to give you more information after we have met,” Rwaje told The New Times. The statement from Archbishop Welby’s residence notes that through his trip, he will seek to lay a strong foundation for future collaboration, as well as help promote peace in violence-prone countries of the region. He is also scheduled to meet heads of the Anglican communities in South Sudan, DRC and Burundi.
