She says it’s all about resilience, adding that with a growth mindset, one is able to develop resilience in everything they do. She says resilience that comes with a growth mindset is key to achieving personal and professional growth. “This means that employees will practice compassion and patience with themselves, even when they face setbacks in their line of work,” she says. For learners, Gatoya believes it makes the learning process fun. For instance, he says someone with a growth mindset views the learning process as the best part. They enjoy the struggle and don’t mind being bad at something in the beginning. “When development is stressful for employees or even learners, such people are much less likely to engage in those programs or make an effort,” she says. For this reason, she says that this explains why it’s so important to cultivate a growth mindset for employees to help them find success in their personal and professional development. How to go about it From different studies, it has also been revealed that organisations or companies should aim at encouraging more of their workforce to adopt a growth mindset for their improvement. For instance, studies indicate that the first thing is to invest in the education of the employees. Also, hiring an external expert to give training on the power of a growth mindset to employees is vital. This could come with offering, monitoring and coaching as it will offer employees one-on-one support they need to develop a growth mindset. It can be challenging for employees to overcome a fixed mindset on their own.
