After taking a break for close to three years, Marie Constantine Nyirabahire is making a come back as a gospel and cultural artiste.Known for songs like Urukundo rwaka and Ntawundi, Chouchou took a break from music to attend to personal commitments.According to Chouchou, she has always had a passion for singing since childhood and always wanted to make this talent a bigger part of her life. She draws her musical inspiration from legendary singers Kamaliza Utamuliza and Cécile Kayirebwa. She started singing in 2008, before taking a break in 2010. Born in 1985, Chouchou is the last born in the family of six. The graduate from the University of Rwanda is currently working as a warden guide at the Kings Palace Museum in Nyanza.“Talent never dies, even if I have not been actively involved in singing, I continued writing songs for other traditional artistes. It is because of my love for our culture and my desire to teach everyone to embrace it that I have decided to make a comeback,” said Chouchou.Chouchou believes that given opportunity she would teach young ones how to embrace their culture.“It really hurts me when some people claim to be proud Rwandans but don’t endeavor to learn the culture and the language. When you forget your culture, it is like forgetting who you are,” she adds. Her latest tracks include Ndashima, a gospel song and a traditional song called, Tunyeganyege.
