South Korean designer Sangbong Lie has donated clothes worth over $200,000 (Rwf133m) to Congolese refugees living in Gihembe refugee camp in Gicumbi District. The donation will go to girls who will be selected by the camp’s authorities. The clothes were presented by Olleh Rwanda Network (oRn), Chief Executive Officer, Peter Jeon. oRn is a joint investment by the Government of Rwanda and Korean Telecom (KT) aimed at building a wireless broadband network in Rwanda using 4G LTE technology. While handing over the sacks of clothes, Jeon told the refugees that helping the needy fulfills part of their desires. “The designer gave this donation to KT which later selected Rwanda as its destination,” he said. Jeon was flanked by a team from Olleh Rwanda. Gihembe refugee camp accommodates 14,000 refugees with majority being children and women. Evelyne Mugwaneza who is charge community service and a beneficiary, said some girls were being lured into prostitution to get clothes.
