Over 390 commercial motorcycles have been impounded by the police in Kigali for various traffic offenses.The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana, disclosed this at a meeting bringing together officials from Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), and Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA), and representatives of different motorcycle associations at the Police headquarters in Kacyiru.He cautioned commercial motorcyclists against indiscipline, warning that police would continue to impound motorcycles for errant riders.The IGP cited loading goods with passengers, violation of traffic rules, speeding and not wearing reflector jackets as the common offenses committed by the ‘moto’ riders. He said police is considering fining the motorcycle riders instead of the owners.The meeting resolved to paint different colours for each zone on motorcycles for easy identification.RCA boss, Vincent Rutaremara said working with the police and motorcycle cooperatives will minimise cases of indiscipline.
