As the Pan-African Dance Festival comes to a close this weekend, audiences have been less than enthusiastic at some of the musical performances. Eager to see international artists, some members of the FESPAD audience chanted “Turabazi, muveho” (leave the stage) when local Rwandan artists performed on Wednesday night. Kenyan artists Redsan was popular with people dancing and singing along. They set the stage for the next performance by Chameleon. “That’s my man. Get ready for the dance,” said Gahizi Stephen, a fan of Chameleon. The emcee called on Chameleon to come to the stage. After a five minute delay, which made some members of the audience grumble, Chameleon appeared in style to warm up the crowed that had waited for him. Dressed in a white striped suit and white shoes, Chameleon sang with his band. The crowd had a big number of high profile people such as the Prime Minister Barnard Makuza and Sports and Culture Minister Joseph Habineza. Some audience members were satisfied with the show.“These people have performed well. I would say that we have enjoyed ourselves much and will continue to attend other events that are yet to come,” said Ndayishimira Vicent, a member of the audience. FESPAD will wind down on Saturday evening with a closing ceremony and concerts by Magic System from the Ivory Coast and other artists. Ends
