ASSISTANT COACHES Thierry Hitimana and Billy Musakombi will remain in charge of Rayon Sports as the club takes time to decide on the vacant head coach role. “We are yet to decide on a possible replacement but for the meantime; Hitimana and Musakombi will remain in charge of the blues,” Club chairman Theogene Ntampaka said yesterday.Gomes resigned from Rayon Sports on Monday citing unpaid salary arrears for the last three months. He said, “I have terminated my contract with Rayon Sports. I have done everything I could for the club and I am sad that I had to leave the club this way.” Rayon Sports owed Gomes a three-month unpaid salary amounting to $9000 [Rwf. 6,110,643m] while the players are yet to be paid their salaries for the past two months, a feat which might have forced Gomes to resign. Prior to his resignation, Gomes had been contacted by Cameroon’s Coton Sport Garoua, Young Africans and a yet to be known Tunisian club. Gomes has high chances of sealing a new professional deal soon. Gomes leaves Rayon Sports second on the Turbo King Football League with 28 points in 13 matches this season. During his tenure, the French-born guided the blues to their first Rwandan league title since 2004 last year. Rayon who had 57 points-last registered league success way back in 2004 under Coach Raoul Shungu and again in 2005 when they won the Peace Cup. With three weeks left, Rayon Sports is expected to face Congolese side AC Leopards in the Preliminary qualifying round of the CAF Champions League. The 18th edition of the Orange CAF Champions League 2014 preliminary stage kicks off on a date between February 7 and 9 when Rayon Sports travel to Brazzaville for the first leg before hosting the return leg in Kigali a week later. Should Rayon overcome the tricky Congolese side, they will face the winner between 1ero Agosto of Angola and Lioli from Lesotho in the first round.
