Editor, MISS RWANDA is a good initiative, especially with the self-reliance theme, but it falls short when it comes to inspiring young girls to want to do more with their lives. The search is on but we are yet to see a positive campaign around it. We should see continued workshops and training programmes for girls who did not make the cut. There is need to follow up on the scores of girls who participate but don’t make it to the advanced selection stages. The Ministry of Sports and Culture ought to see to it that the impact is on the ground, including in the rural areas. Otherwise we will have adolescent girls growing up thinking they are not pretty enough to make a change in the community.Edwin, RwandaReaction to the story, “Northern Province picks Miss Rwanda representatives” (The New Times, January 13)
