National volleyball league newcomers Rayon Sports are planning to organise a pre-season tournament before the start of the new season next month.The Nyanza-based team has invited all Rwandan teams to take apart in the event, which will be every year before the league starts and all teams, apart from APR, have confirmed their participation.Two teams from outside Rwanda have been invited, they are; Amies Sportif Amicale from Burundi and Sky volleyball Club of Uganda.However, the dates for the tournament have not yet been set pending consideration of the Rwanda Volleyball Federation calendar, which is not yet out.Tentatively, organisers are hoping to have the event fixed immediately after the return of the national team from the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, which will help in Cameroon in February, 12-16.According to head coach Fidele Nyimana ‘Fidjo’ “we need to prepare well ahead of the league that’s why we have organised this tournament.”The elimination of the tourney will be held at Nyanza before playing the final at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.The teams which have shown interest in taking part in the event include; INATEK, Christ-Roi, KVC, Lycee de Nyanza, Rusumo High School, UR Huye Campus, G.S.O Butare, GS Saint Joseph Kabgayi, Ngororero and the hosts Rayon Sports.UR-Huye campus (former NUR) are the current defending champions, having conquered archrivals APR in last season’s playoff final in October.
