Dear editor,I read in The New Times recently about the alarming rate at which some districts in the country were losing forest cover. My argument is that districts should enact tough laws to punish people who cut down trees in forest reserves to burn charcoal and get timber, in order to save the country from environmental degradation. Otherwise, we risk perishing due to the drastic changes of the environment. I have been to Bugesera district where tough laws are in place to the effect. The laws have been effective and it is not easy to find a person burning charcoal or selling it. Musanze
