ANC uses birthday to mobilize supporters

JOHANNESBURg. The African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s ruling party, used its 102nd anniversary to drum up support in Mpumalanga province on Wednesday.The top six of ANC led the mobilisation campaign in Mpumalanga province. South African president Jacob Zuma handed over pamphlets in Kwanyamazane, Mbombela and interacted with community members. The president did door to door campaign in various parts of Mpumalanga province. “Throughout our more than a century’s existence, the African National Congress has been an embodiment and a representation of the aspirations of our people. The ANC remains committed to fulfilling this noble responsibility and is humbled by the support we have enjoyed and continue to enjoy from South Africans; an honor we have never taken for granted,” said Jackson Mthembu, national spokesperson of ANC.Zuma also visited taxi ranks where he chatted with various people handing out information about the party, its history and aspirations. He addressed the vendors, school children and the general community selling his party.The chairperson of ANC Baleka Mbete, the party vice president Cyril Ramahosa and others addressed people in various parts of the province. As part of the celebration the party will present its traditional Jan. 8 statement and launch the 2014 election manifesto in the province during the weekend.Gwede Mantashe, the secretary general of ANC said that the party is using the birthday celebrations of the party to take stock of their achievements and build on that. He said health, creation of jobs and growing the economy are top on their agenda.During one of Africa’s liberation movements, the African National Congress was founded on Jan. 8, 1912.
