Tek Experts Rwanda celebrated their one-year anniversary of caring, growing and learning together. The celebration for all employees took place at the Tek Expert’s office in Kigali on September 6. . According to Gary Bennett, the Country Manager of Tek Experts Rwanda – “The 1-year celebration is about the opportunities we’ve been able to open up in this community and watching the tremendous growth of our team. We started a year ago with 53 engineers, and have grown to nearly 200 today,” he said. “We have been successful in finding the talent we need, recruiting them and providing specific training to ensure their individual success and our success as a team because we are all stronger together.” He declared that the centre wants to grow to 600, and later look for a second location, hence investing in more infrastructure. He added that they are currently offering enterprise software services and support for global companies and look forward to adding additional clients in the coming months. Globally, Tek Experts operate 10 locations, with their biggest operation located in Nigeria, which has a community of 1800 team members. In Rwanda, according to Gary, they have also worked with German development agency, GIZ to develop a work readiness training programme which potential employees undergo before joining the firm. He noted that the trainees are skilled in digital, research and communication alongside other soft and technical skills, adding that career opportunities are available on the organisation’s social media platforms, website and through their referral programme. “The key to Rwanda success has been our performance. We are excelling and I know this team will continue to deliver as well as we have over the last year, which will help us create even more employment opportunities as we reach our goal of 600 people,” he said. Yvan Cyusa who joined Tek Experts as a Technical Support Engineer in September 2021 is currently a Team Manager at the firm having completed Tek Experts Level Up Leadership program. He said the company gave him opportunities to grow, in line with a career path he wanted to take – becoming a team leader. He says that he gained knowledge on how best to interact with customers, among other skills. “Senior engineers from Bulgaria, Costa Rica and Vietnam came here to train us,” said Cyusa. “After that, there were plenty of courses we took online in order to enhance our knowledge.” Tackling the soft skills part, he said he gained communication skills in the context of business, how to influence customers as well as inter-personal skills that helps them relate better with colleagues in a work environment. As a Team Manager, he is currently playing part in the growth of other engineers through coaching and mentoring them as well as making sure they perform the best. Belise Inema, a Software Support Engineer at the company has also acquired different skills. She said that before, she worked as a software developer and was only immersed into coding, but after joining Tek Experts, she was able to acquire communication skills and learn new technological tools. “I have been exposed to various technological tools. I’ve also extensively learnt about my product (performance testing tool). I’ve been able to learn how it works and to support people with 20+ years of experience within a short time,” she said. “Our clients performance testing tool helps companies to first test their application before they release them to the market to make sure they are providing something that will benefit the community,” she described, adding that she is ready to share knowledge with other people as a way of giving back to her community.
