National volleyball league is scheduled to start on February 8, should the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) general assembly approve the tentative calendar as released recently. The federation also approved two new clubs, namely Rayon Sports Volleyball Club and Ngororero Volleyball Club, to participate in the new season. “We need to start the league early because we are supposed to adjustour league to fit with the international volleyball federation calendar,” FRVB technical director Christian Hatungimana told Times Sport on Saturday.Nyanza-based Rayon Sports will almost entirely be made up of former players of the former National University of Rwanda (NUR), currently University of Rwanda’s College of Arts and Social Sciences. The team will be coached by former NUR coach Fidele Nyirimanzi. Rayon have signed some big names, among them; Guillaume Irakarama, Eugene Tuyishime, Evode Munyandinda, Theogene Tuyishime, Eric ‘Machine’ Nsabimana and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma – all from NUR. Others include; Athanase Bigirimana, Fred Mosoni, and Alexis Ntakirutimana from rivals APR.The development means that the 2014 league will comprise 11 teams; including INATEK, Christ-Roi, KVC, APR, Lycee de Nyanza, Rusumo High School, UR Huye Campus, G.S.O Butare, GS Saint Joseph Kabgayi, Rayon Sports, and Ngororero.UR-Huye campus (former NUR) are the current defending champions, having conquered archrivals APR in last season’s playoff final in October.
