Bulldog opens lid on ‘best rapper’ battle

The claim by Hip-hop artiste Malik Ndayishimiye aka Bulldog to be the ‘best rapper’ in Rwanda is likely to create some sort of rivalry-known as ‘beef’ in the music industry.In a recent interview with local media, Bulldog claimed that he is the ‘King of Rap’ in Rwanda. But this is likely not to go down well with his mates Jay Polly and Riderman, who are arguably the leading rappers at the moment.Known for his controversial, rather outspoken remarks, Bulldog claimed that he is the pioneer of hip-hop in Rwanda, hence the number one rapper, followed by P Fla and Green P- who are both little known hip-hop artistes.Bulldog is a member of Tuff Gang, a hip-hop house founded by Jay Polly. Failing to mention his perceived boss is likely to create tension between the two rappers, even though clearly Jay Polly and Riderman can put claim to the ‘best rapper nod’, at least by Rwandan standards.“I have been in this industry so long, everyone else who came found me in the game. Right now I am working on different video projects to showcase what I have done so far. I am looking at ways of exploring beyond Rwandan borders,” the rapper said.“I started with old school but then along the way I came up with new school hip- hop in Rwandan style. That is when all the new rappers came in. So at the beginning of 2013, I came up with the ‘King of Hip Hop’ title because everyone else found me in there,” Bulldog claims.The Bye Bye Nyakatsi rapper has completed recording his new song ‘Vision 2020’ featuring King James, which he says contains a positive message for all Rwandans to realise how far they have come and where they are headed.The rapper has had two attempts on the previous two Primus Guma Guma Superstar music competition but failed to impress and got eliminated along the way, but not before giving the organisers a piece of his mind.Bulldog has claimed in the past that the winner of the Bralirwa-sponsored music contest is pre-determined and that the process in not transparent.
