Former NEC boss leaves office

GASABO - The former Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission, Pierre Damien Habumuremyi this week officially handed over office to his successor Charles Munyaneza. Habumuremyi is among the five Rwandan MPs who were recently elected to represent the country in the East African Community Legislative Assembly (EACLA). During the hand-over ceremony at the Commission’s offices in Kimihurura, Habumuremyi petitioned his successor to complete what was left unfinished. In his speech, the President of the National Electoral Commission, Professor Chrysologue Karangwa, thanked Habumuremyi for his passionate efforts during his term in the Commission. He said that the hard work he exhibited earned him trust and recognition, leading to his being one of the five MPs representing the country in the regional bloc. “Since I joined you in this Commission in 2003, you have been a good productive figure in this institution and always strived for its progress. The step you have taken is a good reward to our institution and the country in general,” Karangwa said before requesting him to keep in touch with the Commission. The acting Executive Secretary, Charles Munyaneza, promised to accomplish his responsibilities as requested by the Commission. “I will continue from where my predecessor stopped and with my colleagues, we shall make sure we strive towards developing our Commission,” he said. Munyaneza added that he was very happy to have succeeded such an instrumental figure like Habumuremyi. Habumuremyi has served as the NEC Executive Secretary for eight years. Ends
