SundayNyakabanda 27-25 APRNyakabanda handball club are the 2013 winners of Coupe du Rwanda after a narrow 27-25 victory over APR on Sunday at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).Unlike in the past, this year’s tournament attracted just two teams after the likes of Police, league champions Gicumbi, KIE (now College of Education) and NUR (now College of Arts and Humanities) opted out due to financial constraints, according to organisers, the national handball federation.This year’s competition had been particularly organised as part of celebrations for 30 years of handball existence in the country.The game was introduced by Germans in Rwanda in 1983.“It is a big a disappointment that this year’s tournament, which was supposed to be a special event, flopped after teams cited financial difficulties with only two participating,” Ferwahand secretary general Alfred Twahirwa told this paper.Ceremonies to mark the 30-year anniversary are scheduled for today at Hello’s Corner, Remera. Police handball club were last year’s winners of Coupe du Rwanda.
