Pre-tournament favourites Kiziguro Secondary School bowed out of the girls’ handball tournament at the ongoing 2023 FEASSSA Games following Thursday’s 17-22 semi-final defeat at the hands of Ugandan representatives Kawanda Secondary School. READ ALSO: FEASSA Games: Uwamariya tips Rwandan teams on discipline, sportsmanship The two sides had met in the final of the 2022 FEASSSA Games in Arusha, Tanzania, and Kiziguro S.S emerged victorious after they edged Kawanda SS 19-15 to lift the trophy. And it was this time the Ugandans' turn for revenge as they sent the Gatsibo-based school packing to set a final date with either Gombe S.S (Uganda) and Moi Girls (Kenya) who have a match between them in another semifinal. They will now face Uganda’s Kakungulu Memorial in the final. Lycée de Kigali, GS St Aloys fly high In other sports, Lycée de Kigali reached the boys’ basketball semifinals after beating Tanzania’s Juhudi Sec 95-78 in the group stages to finish second in Group A. Meanwhile, GS Saint Aloys secured their spot in girls’ volleyball semi-finals after beating 3-0 St. Elizabeth Girls of Uganda in their final group stage game. Elsewhere in Athletics, Rwandan Magnifique Uwase Umutesi struck two gold medals in 100m and 400m. Umutesi, 18, is a secondary school student at GS Remera Rukoma in Kamonyi District. The FESSSA Games started on August 17 and will run through August 27 in Huye and Gisagara Districts, Southern Province. The competition brings together High schools and primary schools from the six member countries of the East African Community including Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Zanzibar and Uganda. Teams compete in different sports disciplines. This year, Rwanda is represented by 450 players (212 boys and 238 girls) from 24 teams in 13 sporting disciplines including football, basketball, netball, handball, rugby, hockey, athletics, badminton, lawn tennis, swimming, and goalball.
