Amavubi coach urges patience

Amavubi Stars’ woes will come to an end sooner than later, head coach Eric Nshimiyimana has said. Nshimiyimana was appointed the national team coach assisted by former national team teammate Jean Baptist Kayiranga in April, after the sacking of the now-Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojovic. Despite failing to go beyond the quarter finals of this year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup held in Kenya early this month, Nshimiyimana believes Amavubi are on the right path for future success. The national team also performed dismally in the 2014 World Cup and CHAN qualifiers. It has also been in freefall mode in Fifa world rankings and has slipped to the club of the laggards in the region. “I am always optimistic. I feel the players we have on the field can perform at the high level and can get us to where we need to be because I believe in them,” said the former Amavubi and APR midfielder. “It is a long and difficult journey, but one I, together with my (technical) staff and the players are prepared to take until we reach where we want to be. For us, we have to learn from all this and, going forward, we need to keep getting better in every game we play.” “We are building a team of the future, not a team of one competition, it will take us time but for me I believe that the glorious days are ahead of us,” he added. Nshimiyimana called for patience and support of the public. “We need everyone’s backing, we need to put our thoughts and efforts together as Rwandans and help the players; I’m convinced time will come when we will be winning games.” “Our leaders, journalists and the fans must all understand that we are working hard to build a strong team for the future; no one is happy with our results, certainly not the coaching staff, not the players. We need to continue working hard, we are all in this together.”
