Sawa Citi Supermarket has expanded its presence by introducing a new branch in Nyarutarama. This latest addition, situated within the Deco Centre Complex (KG 12 Ave) was unveiled on Tuesday, August 22. The opening ceremony was presided over by Theogene Kubwimana, Co-founder and CEO of Sawa Citi. The new outlet boasts expansive shelves offering an array of products, including dairy, meat, fish, fresh vegetables, baby products, cosmetics, foodstuffs, beverages, household essentials, and more. Alex Syaka, Co-founder and Chairman of Sawa Citi, shared insights during a press interview at the launch. He said: Deco Centre is the newest mall here in Nyarutarama, Gacuriro, Kagugu area, so it was an opportunity for us to open a store here and be able to serve our customers. This is a very modern store; we tried to give a new look to our brand with a premium store. The size is more than adequate, and every detail, from the quality of shelves, the spacious interior to the refrigeration facilities, all have been meticulously designed to meet a new standard, it's one of the best stores in Rwanda at the moment, Shyaka said. Addressing the topic of expansion, he confirmed the supermarket's growth plans. Yes, we are opening new branches, one this year and two or three next year. But the most important thing is to get closer to our customers. We're even considering opening a couple of stores outside Kigali, like in Rubavu, Rusizi, and Musanze. Those are our top three targets as of now. Commenting on concerns about pricing, Syaka offered a perspective on the supermarket's competitive edge. He said: Actually, if you really look closely, our prices are cheaper than most. People are comparing some prices with the informal market where VAT is not paid. In reality, there is no way a local small trader can beat the pricing of supermarkets. It's a perception shift; while there is a cost attached to convenience, it doesn't necessarily mean we're higher. Jeanette Uwera, a satisfied shopper and loyal Sawa Citi customer, expressed her delight about the new branch. She said: I used to detour through the Gishushu branch on my way home to grab essentials. Now that they've set up shop in Nyarutarama, shopping will be a breeze. Whenever I shop here, I'm confident in the quality of my purchases. And, to be honest, their bread is a personal favourite – it's why I find myself visiting every single day. Sawa Citi Supermarket currently has eight stores across Kigali namely: Poids Lourds, Remera, Rusororo, Free Zone, Rebero, Kagugu, Kicukiro and Nyarutarama. Notably, these outlets host BBROOD, a renowned Dutch flagship store known for their top-tier and health-conscious sourdough bread offerings. As the year progresses, a new establishment is set to be unveiled in Nyabugogo, the supermarket is also gearing up to celebrate its 10-year anniversary on September 13.
