I feel as if I am not being a great parent to my children

I have done some thinking and I am now convinced that I have so far not been such a great parent. I am not sure whether it has to do with my busy work schedule that leaves me with very little time but any tips you could offer me would be helpful.Derrick, KiyovuDear Derrick, unfortunately you have not laboured to explain precisely what makes you think you are not a good parent. However there are some few basic tips that I believe could be helpful to your situation. Being a great parent is not about winning a popularity contest with your children. Some of the things that you have to do are things that will be unpopular with them. The challenge is to be the friend that your child will talk to honestly while at the same time being the parent that keeps firm rules. To begin with you should always know where your child is, who they are with and who is in charge of whatever they are doing. This is critical especially when children are in their teen years. Get to know your child’s friends. Where they spend their time and the kind of people they spend it with is very vital information. You r child will be influenced by his peers more than anyone else. Always insist on respect. Respect for yourself and others. Teach your children good coping skills and communication skills. Ensure that they can handle their anger in ways that will not be verbally or physically abusive to others.Be radically consistent. You r child cannot take you serious if what you say is inconsistent. Have open and honest communication with them about sex. Not just that it’s bad and they’ll get pregnant and die if they have it, but talk about the joy of waiting for that special someone. Ask them often how they feel about things and keep open discussions going about drugs, drinking, money, personal safety, and current events. There is no formula for this, just keep doing your best each day.
