NORTHERN PROVINCE GICUMBI — Members of Gicumbi district Private Sector Federation (PSF) have delivered doors and windows for four houses constructed for Genocide survivors in Kageyo Sector. The donation is part of the selected materials promised last week for 253 houses constructed for Genocide survivors and other vulnerable groups in the district. The materials were handed over during last Saturday’s communal work (Umuganda). “This is the beginning of our commitment,” said Gratien Mupenzi the President of PSF in Gicumbi district. The first beneficiaries were drawn from Gihembe, Muhondo, Horezo and Kabuga Cells. Residents who turned up for community work helped to fit the doors and windows in the houses. Bonane Nyangezi the district Mayor hailed the local residents for their contribution in assisting to build the houses. Each house was roofed with 52 iron sheets. “You should maintain this spirit of love and assisting one another because it is part of Rwandan culture,” said Nyangezi. Leonidas Muvuzankwaya, the president of Northern Province PSF said their efforts emanate from the current peace and unity among Rwandans, ushered in by the government. According to the district vice Mayor for Social Affairs, Eugenie Uwamahoro, the district has so far received 18, 220 iron sheets and 700 bags of cement from the Ministry of Local Government meant to construct a total of 253 houses for the vulnerable groups. “The first phase will be that of Genocide survivors, followed by the second phase of other vulnerable groups,” said Uwamahoro.
