Kenyatta’s niece dedicates touching performance to the late Mandela

It was the final eviction show just before the grand finale on Sunday. Kavi Pratt, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece gave a stunning performance of a song she wrote herself. The song “Believer” was dedicated to people who have lost their beloved ones especially the Mandela family.Backed by the contestants, Kavi sang masterfully and commanded the stage. It was a sight to behold as her silky vocals had the crowd swaying from side to side. She received a standing ovation in the end. What a start to the show!A number of VIPs were in the audience- Kenya’s first family, who came to cheer one of their own. H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta’s daughter Ngina and her aunt Christina Pratt came to show support to Kavi. Another pleasant surprise was Mburu Karanja who is the son of former EABL MD Michael Karanja- the Master Brewer who’s signature is on the bottle of Tusker Malt. After Kavi, Hope took the stage, packing some serious heat with the song ‘Wash The Tears’ by Gramps Morgan. He sang like a seasoned professional. Hope was clearly in control of his surroundings… and he got the whole crowd waving with him as he sang. He too received a standing ovation… that seemed endless.Nyambura came on after Hope. Singing Faith Evans ‘Love Like This’, the Kenyan signorina was backed by the boys, doing a basic shuffle. Band Leader Aaron got to show that he and his band are capable of playing anything… anything at all!!! Nyambura had the help of the Sarakasi Dancers and she gave a vocal performance that had all the right nuances. Despite a small wardrobe malfunction, Nyambura got into the groove and danced. Nyambura laughed about it but confessed that she had so much fun. Judge Hermes stated that the performances were great and their journey was only beginning. Band Leader Aaron stated that they did super fantabulously!!! It was a great start to the show… and there was more to come.The third performance of the night was Patrick. Performing Joe’s ‘Compromise’, the Rwandan maintained his usual high standard and to put the icing on the cake, what would a Patrick performance be without the necessary smooth ad libs.Daisy followed singing a South African hit ‘Eh Wena Wela’. Barefoot and backed by the Sarakasi Dancers, Daisy was the picture of poise and control. It was a completely different Daisy on the stage tonight from the one we saw on the first night. Daisy, who initially relied on her voice to get her through the songs, has become a well rounded performer. She is the real deal now and the Princess from the Pearl Of Africa left it all on the stage.During the judge’s turn to comment, Judge Juliana said that with the right music, the two will go far. Coach Edu felt that the dancing by Daisy was flawless. Principal Eric thought both Daisy and Patrick’s were fantastic.The fifth performance of the evening was by Tanzanian heartthrob, Hisia. Singing ‘Dive’ by Usher, the Academy and the Sarakasi Dancers backed him up. Hisia never gave a sign that he struggled with the song earlier in the week. Hisia impressed the whole of East Africa with his rendition.Final contestants out were Amos and Josh. Performing KCi and Jojo’s ‘Tell Me It’s Real’, the dynamic duo had the crowd screaming even before they had sung the first verse! In all honesty, Music Director Aaron picked the most perfect song for the pair, as they took this classic from the early noughties and gave it a current feel. As they performed the crowd waved and sang along. The end of the performance was punctuated with screams and hollering from the ecstatic audience. Amos and Josh shared their favourite moments with East Africa and thanked everyone for their support. Hisia thanked the whole of East Africa for their continued support. Judge Ian was impressed by Amos and Josh’s chemistry and hoped they would always sing together. After the break, someone would be eliminated. The atmosphere was suddenly very tense in the Tusker Dome. Once the results were verified, Joey revealed that two contestants would be eliminated. Nyambura and Patrick had the lowest votes and were going home.
