Inspector General of Police Emmanuel Gasana has appealed to judicial and community policing officers to evaluate themselves and put much effort in accomplishing their tasks. IGP Gasana made the call, yesterday, while opening a five-day training of 97 regional and district judicial and community policing officers at Police headquarters in Kacyiru, Kigali. The training seeks to harmonise the officers’ activities and equip them with more understanding on the community policing concept. Gasana urged the trainees to devote to their work and offer quality services to harness campaign against crimes. Tackling community violence Though the level of crimes is a downward trend, the Police chief said much effort is needed, especially in working with communities to prevent security threats like drug abuse and domestic violence. “If you commit to your duties and work with communities, the level of crime will decrease further,” he said. “We are the first line in crime prevention, and time is not our friend. Our task is to have a positive trend.” Gasana told the trainees to use the opportunity to share experience and devise efficient strategies to fight crime. Assault, theft, drug abuse and sexual related crimes are the most registered offences committed, according to the latest security report.
