Ruhango students pledge to participate in development

Students from Ruhango District studying at the University of Rwanda’s College of Humanities (former National University of Rwanda) have resolved to continue working closely with their district’s leadership to foster development.The pledge was made on Saturday as over 350 students, grouped under the Ruhango University Students Association (RUSA), met with the district leadership to discuss their role in local development.Francois Habiyaremye, the association’s coordinator, said, as students, they have an added advantage to better understand the problems the district faces and their remedies.Habiyaremye said they are ready to support authorities in their effort to uplift the lives of Ruhango residents.He said they will help sensitise the community about developmental programmes and offer hands-on training, especially to farmers as a way of helping them boost their production.“We also remain committed to supporting the most vulnerable individuals within the community and participate in the monthly community work, Umuganda,” Habiyaremye pledged.Ruhango mayor Francois Xavier Mbabazi, hailed the students for their commitment to improving the lives of Ruhango residents.He said the students are welcome to participate in the development of their district and promised to help them implement their plans.
