Kiyovu Sports welcome Muhazi United FC at the Kigali Pelé Stadium on Sunday, August 20, looking to amass first three points from their opening match of the 2023/24 Rwanda Premier League season. The game, which kicks off at 7:00 pm at Kigali Pelé Stadium, promises to be top notch as both team enjoyed an impressive preseason. Muhazi United played six games during the preseason and lost just once against Sunrise FC in Nyagatare. They recorded a goalless draw against AS Kigali in a game which they dominated. ALSO READ: Rwanda Premier League is back: What you should expect Kiyovu were, on the other hand, held to a 3-3 draw by Mukura Victory Sports before drawing 0-0 with Sudanese giants Al Merrikh. Concerning games between Kiyovu Sports and Muhazi United FC which was formerly known as Rwamagana City, the pair have met three times in all competitions since 2022 with Kiyovu winning twice against Muhazi’s one win. Kiyovu Sports returns to the new season with a much-changed squad after undergoing a mass exodus of departures and arrivals at both ends in the transfer window. They parted ways with ten players from their last season squad and almost all members of their technical team after twice letting the league title slip through their hands. The team is now in the hands of Greek Petros Koukouras and had, since his appointment, made various signings in former AS Kigali midfielder Olivier Niyonzima who was eventually named captain of the team. The Mumena-based side also signed a ruthless Liberian attacker in Mikel Freeman as Koukouras seeks to build an attacking team around him. Muhazi United have contrary been quiet in the transfer window but they made an important signing in Ghanaian central midfielder Joseph Louis Sackey who was the best player of Ghanaian first division side Wa Suntaa FC in the 2022/23 season. It is going to be a great game full of action with Kiyovu who are playing at home starting as favorites but Muhazi have the tendency to get at least a point. Other Games Etincelles vs Gorilla Etincelles will host Gorilla FC at the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu on Sunday afternoon. The home side are without their top marksman Moro Sumaila who is yet to return after holidays. Etincelles had just nine days of preseason while Gorilla's preseason spanned two months. The away side looks favorites to win the game. Police vs Sunrise The two teams will square off at the Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Last season, they met four times in all completions as two of those games ended in a draw. It will be a great outing for both teams with a draw likely to be the outcome though Police will start as favourites. Amagaju vs Mukura Victory Sports Newly-promoted Amagaju will have a baptism of fire as they host Mukura Victory Sports at Huye Sports Stadium in a Southern Province derby. The Nyamagabe based club have adopted Huye as their home grounds, meaning that they will welcome Mukura on their own ground. The Black and Yellow side is dry to amass the three maximum points. Etoile de l'Est vs Musanze Etoile de l'Est welcome Musanze FC to Ngoma Stadium in what will be their first competitive topflight match since they were promoted back to Rwanda Premier League. This game could go either way though Etoile with home advantage will start as favourites. It will be an emotional return for Musanze striker Peter Agblevor to Ngoma where he will this time be playing against a team he played for during the 2021/22 season.
