Renowned Kigali karaoke hostess, Carolyne Nderitu, had a chat with Society Magazine’s Doreen Umutesi and talked about the importance of comfort and also being fashionable. How would you describe your dress sense? I would describe it as “Smart Casual”. When I dress, I have to think of my comfort considering that I walk around a lot during the show and I work at night. So I have to keep in mind to stay warm and be comfortable as well as smart. What’s your favourite clothing item? I would have to say my favourite item is shoes. It is the one item that can ‘knock you down’ even when you are dressed like a super model. If your shoes are not comfortable - you’ll be the most uncomfortable person wherever it is that you are be it in the office, cocktail or at dinner. Where do you shop for clothes? I really don’t have a particular store where I shop. If something catches my eye on the display, I’ll walk in, check it out and buy it if I really like it - and if I can afford it!What do you consider when shopping for clothes? Like I said earlier, comfort is my number one consideration when shopping for clothes. The second consideration is the colour, fabric and design. I don’t like clothes that are too tight (unless it is a special occasion where I really don’t have a choice but to wear a tight fitting dress). I also prefer trousers to skirts. What is your favourite fashion accessory? My favourite fashion accessory - rings. I love the way rings look on the fingers. What is your favourite clothing item on a guy? A guy with a good pair of shoes. I would have to say I am a sucker for good shoes on men. What’s your favourite scent? My favourite scents are “Cool Waters” by Davidoff and ESCADA “Cherry in the Air”Any fashion advice? Whatever it is that you wear, ensure that you are comfortable in it, you will not have to worry all day about whether it’s “too tight” or “too short” or “too bright” or whatever. It does a lot to boost your self confidence and esteem.
