October inflation stable at 5.1%

Rwanda’s inflation rate for the year ended October was stable when compared to the month of September, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) indicated in its monthly report over the weekend. According to NISR, the October inflation rate was at 5.1 per cent, unchanged from September. The general inflation rate by an annual average of 4.2 per cent. The annual average underlying inflation rate increased marginally to 3.81 per cent from 3.8 per cent in September, while the underlying inflation rate, excluding fresh food and energy, increased by 0.33 per cent compared to the previous month, and increased by 3.24 per cent on annual change, according to the report. It also showed that foodstuff and non-alcoholic beverages prices went up to 8.2 per cent, while education was at 35.2 per cent. NISR noted that the increase of 0.43 per cent in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages was primarily attributable to the increase of 0.92 per cent of bread and cereals. The all urban general index, established at 124.5 stands for an increase of 0.33 per cent compared to the previous month which was at 124.1.
