Editor, Refer to the letter, “Africans, not Westerners, killing African languages” (The New Times, March 23) I couldn’t agree more. I didn’t even know that the EAC is planning to use English as its official language. If that’s the case, then Lord help us. I visited Rwanda two years ago and I swear the language I heard on the streets and even on the radio and TV was not Kinyarwanda I grew up speaking. Clearly, we’re doing something wrong and need to encourage and reinforce the use of our native languages. The international community should use translators, not the other way around. Ali Baba
