Rwanda posts new record in Fifa ranking

Rwanda has improved eight spots to attain the highest ever 64th position in the latest Fifa/ Coca-Cola World Rankings released on Thursday at Fifa headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. Despite the monthly rankings being largely based on competitive and friendly international games that a country plays and Amavubi having not played any game since last month’s classification, Rwanda still ranks best in the Cecafa region and is ranked 18th in Africa. Algeria maintained top spot in Africa and 18th position globally. Reigning African champions Ivory Coast retained the second slot on the continent and 20th worldwide. 2015 Afcon finalists Ghana remain third in Africa and moved one place better, from 25 to 24th in the world. Tunisia replaced Senegal to complete Africa’s top four and are ranked 25th globally. In the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region, Uganda ranks second and 74th globally, trailing Rwanda by ten spots. Tanzania stands third in the region and 100th in world rankings, Ethiopia 102nd globally and fourth in the region while Sudan completes Cecafa’s top five and 110th internationally. Generally, there were no major changes from February rankings. Top five worldwide, remain Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and Netherlands respectively.
