Sensitise public on essence of gender equality

Editor, It’s really so sad to hear that some women in our society have started to behave in such a manner whereby a mother of a certain number of children decides to take alcohol in public and get drunk. That will affect the younger people if that shameful misconduct continues.

Editor,It’s really so sad to hear that some women in our society have started to behave in such a manner whereby a mother of a certain number of children decides to take alcohol in public and get drunk. That will affect the younger people if that shameful misconduct continues.Gender equality doesn't mean to feel that you have the rights to fight against your husband or taking alcohol in a broad daylight.  My advice to researchers is to raise this issue with local leaders by explaining to our citizens especially during umuganda (monthly communal work), umugoroba w’ababyeyi (social parental evening) the meaning of gender equality.We also request the government to put in place firm measures to deal with such cases.Marius RugambaReaction to the story, "Gender Based Violence blamed on misconception of equality”, (The New Times, November 6)
